Gamers Generation II

A little more than 10 years ago I wrote an article on the Habr “ Generation of gamers ”, which collected almost 300 comments and it seems that Friday came and it's time to continue the topic :)

During this time, a second wave of gamers appeared who did not see polygons and pixels except when It was fashionable in Minecraft.

Games are a side, evening entertainment since working on mainframes and punch cards, which did not originate as something serious, but more from boredom.

But how did it happen that in 2020 this is already an entire industry where for some reason someone allocates a million and more dollars to the best players? Well yes, okay, but what difference does it happen and happened, the story is interesting not by the story itself, but by morality. What is moral and what will happen next?

I think many people are aware that e-sports is one big continuous advertising company, which by no means is corporation profitable and profitable. Yes, and ROI / ROMI such a campaign is quite difficult to calculate.

But here is what interests me the most in this whole story. The opinion and life of a direct participant in the whole action is an e-sportsman. For example, cooller, a champion of quake since 2001, has been on this scene for about 20 years and at the same time, sometimes, he says that he was just lucky with the financial flow, but by and large it is a useless lesson in a vacuum.

I myself recently started playing Quake II, returned to my native q2dm1 training grounds where I once grew up and got bad habits like smoking behind garagesjump and jump strafe, as well as decided to nostalgic in Counter-Strike beta 5.2 on de_dust.bsp still buggy, unexpectedly, but there are still functioning servers with players on the Internet.

Having plunged into the past a bit, retrospectively, feeling a lump in my throat, the smell of cigarettes in the smoked cellars of igruha, something suddenly pinched between the ribs and I felt that I could no longer sit from morning to evening, having lunch at the computer and running to the toilet, I started console, q + tab, enter and stood up to walk.

So what develops gaming and e-sports? Reflexes, logic, thinking, or just entertainment, cheap dopamine that jumps up and down depending on victories and defeats?

Once again, watching demos and streams about the best athletes of virtual space, in parallel, trying to reach the first place on the scoreboard among the old quacked old Quake II players on the Playground server, I repeatedly found myself contracting muscles at a crucial moment. I remember as before, I was puzzled why did the males with their whole bodies look up in the game? Although their gaze rests on the monitor edge, they stubbornly bent body up. “Nubts” - thought, and he trained to be calm, cold-blooded, disconnecting the body during the game.

Now, having forgotten about the body, he acquired sciaticascoliosis, lordosis, kyphosis. After all, the more you are on the screen, straight in the game, the more chances to shoot earlier. "Shooting" a certain level tightly, closely, he dreams like in a dream, and in between when going to the supermarket, do not forget to run to the mega. First aid kits and cartridges. Because they seem everywhere.

Watch live streams with cybersportsmen, they are sitting dead in their tracks, their faces are calm, their eyes are clear, they practically do not blink. This is a serious state of the exit of their body and the transfer of consciousness into a virtually created space from textures, where there are smells and sounds, the shuffling of boots. If the brain is distracted by processes in the human body, it means that it is not fully occupied with game processes. 300 actions per minute are distributed by the esportsman in Starcraft, these are 5 conscious clicks or keys per second.

Therefore, rarely when athletes of the virtual space have a healthy and powerful human body. There are of course exceptions. But what skill is training in their minds and where can it be applied?

I suggest making suggestions if the topic is interesting, I will continue to disclose details about intuitions and operators.
