Fire robots

At the mention of the "fire robot", most of us imagine a robot that firefighters will bring with them and send it to the very hell, where not a single fireman can enter. That is, the robot is so sheathed with armor, on tracks that are not afraid of fire and flame ... In a word, “superman” among robots, a hero for dishwashers and smart coffee makers.

But there are other fire robots, or rather robotic fire systems, which are installed in premises for extinguishing a fire in the early stages. That's about them and will be discussed.

Such complexes are installed after the construction or repair of the building - they are the main standard fire extinguishing system. "Artificial intelligence" is needed in order not to work out how much in vain and extinguish only a fire, and not flood the entire room. Such complexes are advantageous to install in large rooms - with an area of more than 5-10 thousand km. m. and with ceilings above 8 m (although there are exceptions).

You can of course install other systems. But they have significant drawbacks, and therefore are complex and expensive (in these rooms):

  • Water and foam automatic systems. In case of fire, the room is flooded with water or foam from the ceiling (sprinklers are installed there). We represent them well in films - the hero pops a lighter and the whole room begins to be irrigated, and those who bathe in it. Lack on the face - everything is flooded. Not only a fire, but also equipment, goods, furniture, electrical wiring. All this at best goes to dry, at worst to a landfill (sometimes, like a movie where the system is shot).
Secondly, water (including for foam generation) must be taken from somewhere. From the water supply you can not everywhere. Then you have to install a beautiful decoration of the territory - a capacity of a hundred cubic meters.
Thirdly, such systems create a large load on the roof due to numerous pipes. And on the ceiling you still have to hang lighting, ventilation, do not forget about the snow ... That is, goodbye to an easy and inexpensive roof ...

  • The meaning of gas fire extinguishing is to fill the room with gas and displace oxygen from it. For a large room, this is almost impossible to do, and people must be evacuated.

Fire robot systems, or if it’s simpler, it’s a stationary fire carriage (in other words, a device for supplying a jet of water or foam), which can rotate around its axis and supply water up and down 180 degrees. An IR sensor is mounted on the robot to direct the jet to a fire. Plus a control system in the form of a controller. Such robots can be installed both on the floor, and on supporting columns, ceiling or special towers - to extinguish, which is convenient.

The main disadvantage of the robots are stationary - they can not move in space. Several such robots should be placed on the premises. In our experience, 6 units are needed per 33 x 105 m workshop, which is expensive.

We, the company "Automatic Rescue Systems", came up with the idea, "captivating with its novelty" - to install such a fire robot on a cart. Automatic of course.
Then the room needs only two robots.

Options for such a cart.

  1. Rides on the floor. The principle is known and understandable. But ... The
robot moves between equipment and goods, trying not to bring down people leaving the room (quite possibly running).

What to do if the passage is cluttered with something? ..

Where to get the water to extinguish? ..

Carry with you ... Too much capacity. That is, the robot must dock to the fire tower. Or drag a sleeve. Both options are extremely uncomfortable: the column must be found and docked with it; the sleeve must be unwound, try not to catch. At the same time, a fire hose is not a garden hose - it is heavy and inflexible.

And the position of extinguishing from the bottom is not the most convenient for extinguishing.

    • Nothing prevents the movement of the robot - there are no people at the top, no equipment (only wiring and ventilation). You can accelerate to the maximum.
    • Water supply by means of a fire pipe installed next to the rails. After a certain distance, the docking nodes are located.
    • Simplified control and positioning of the robot. The robot cannot move anywhere with the guide - control is reduced to setting the desired speed and stopping. And positioning - to determine the position of the robot on the guide

We chose a scheme with guides for movement.

The principle of operation is as follows.

  • In everyday mode (that is, most of the time), the robot stands at the parking spot in standby mode. There he charges his battery, automatic testing of nodes is carried out.

In our case, a “double protection” is obtained - first the stationary sensors must “catch” the fire, then the infrared sensor of the robot must localize it. If you install sensitive sensors in the room, then there will be no false extinguishing. But this allows you to prevent fire at the stage of decay.

For example, in a certain workshop or warehouse, wiring began to smolder at night. Gas sensors (which record an increase in CO level) have detected this. Our fire robots (2 pcs.) Arrived at the signal, but did not detect a fire. So, it is not necessary to fill in and the room is safe for people. In standby mode, robots travel along rails, scanning rooms (just in case). And the attendants visit the room - they check it, deal with the causes of the alarm and, as a result, de-energize the smoldering wiring, which is replaced on the next business day by the duty shift of electricians. There is practically no damage. Otherwise, after several hours of smoldering, a fire would have appeared, it would have spread to the room. And only then would the fire system work. And would flood everything ...

"Automatic rescue systems" developed this fire extinguishing system on mobile robots from scratch. At present, a working sample has been assembled for testing.
