How can an IT expert earn extra on his knowledge

While it was already the 50th day of my quarantine, I decided to uncover my graphomania skills (I beg your pardon for a long text, but 50 (!) Days locked up make themselves felt) and try to send them in a good direction = help = suggest how you can monetize your knowledge and experience. Iā€™ll note right away that I personally donā€™t have a craving for self-PR and thatā€™s why I donā€™t really like speaking and even teaching someone (although in the 90s I worked part time as teaching and writing term papers and diplomas), so I myself decide to educate others itā€™s difficult, but Iā€™m working on myself, because even I understand that time is coming difficult and it will be necessary to somehow survive. And my husband came up with the idea, because he is an IT-person and during the quarantine period his number of orders has significantly decreased, so we sit together and rescheck what to do.

In an ideal world, the earnings of an IT specialist depend only on hard work and existing skills. But in reality, these two factors are not always directly proportional to the fee, and the salary of, for example, two identical mobile application developers can vary greatly.

What skills are needed for the programmer

Spoken English. The first reason why an IT professional should own it is that a lot of useful and educational content is on English-language resources. The second reason is that all programming languages ā€‹ā€‹are based on English vocabulary. The third reason is a new step in the career - the opportunity to find an employer from another country.

Ability to sell yourself. Employers are divided into those who pay as much as necessary, and those who want to develop a mobile application for 5 thousand rubles. To get a job from the first, you need to be able to sell yourself and convince other people that they need you. And in order to get a job with the second type, it is enough to underestimate salary expectations. With whom to work - you decide.

The main rule when communicating with the employer is when you talk about yourself, start from business tasks. For example, the employer is not interested in how exactly you did your job; he wants to know what it brought to the company. Wrong: in the last project I was engaged in UX design. That's right: in a previous project, I was engaged in UX design, increased conversion by X times, this brought the company X rubles.

Understanding the business. When you do not just ā€œcarry on the fatā€, but start offering product solutions, your value in the eyes of the employer will increase significantly.

Knowledge of trends. The IT industry is changing rapidly, so in order not to fall out of the profession, you need to monitor trends. For example, the trends of 2020 can be called: cloud solutions, artificial intelligence and big data analytics.

How to monetize your knowledge and experience

Algorithm for creating an online course:

  • The choice of topics. It must meet two criteria: 1) you are an expert in this, 2) it is interesting to your audience.

I hope my material was useful to you. Since this is my first material on the hub, I hope for your constructive comments.

An important caveat of all online education is that students do not reach the end, because it seems to them that they paid, they donā€™t seem to need to go, etc. = self-discipline in online education is necessary, therefore, of course, no platform will help you, because you we will need to come into contact with our students ourselves, be interested, ask questions = encourage them to go to the end, so special attention is paid to the platformā€™s functionality of direct communication with students, but this is a separate topic ...

PS Useful research.
The number of registered online paid training courses has noticeably increased and continues to grow. So, 17% of respondents first tried this format, and 29% began to use these services even more. Among those who are now receiving online education, the main motivation is the need to work or increase earnings.
