Mein linux

A series of holivar articles has recently appeared on Habré:
Seven reasons why Linux is the
main reason why Linux is not (from the author of the previous article)
main reason why Linux is still

In these articles and comments to them they talked a lot about communism, the integrity of the system, freedom, usability, housewives, glitches ... Yes, anything, but the most important thing for me, if mentioned, is only in passing.

So I decided to write my article, it will be quite small not very big, do not be alarmed.

1. The past

What got me involved? That the operating system is knowable . And these are not empty words. Over these 20 plus years, I have plunged many times into the sources of the kernel, glibc, and all kinds of programs.
I do not recall the case when I seriously began to deal with a problem and gave up, being unable to "get to the roots." This gives the feeling that the system is not a "black box", that it is simple, understandable and predictable. It is very motivating.

Cognizability is based on two pillars.

The first, of course, is the open source.

The second is the simplicity and conciseness of the basic concepts that underlie the entire Unix world.
Simple (I would even say primitive, in a good way) C language, modularity of the system, craving for text configs, text protocols, ...

It is clear that Linux will be relevant for many more years. And Windows too. I hope that in the foreseeable future there will be a “young punks that will wipe us off the face of the earth” - new opensource solutions that will differ in simple and beautiful architecture. Wait and see.

P. S. Comments again slipped into politics, the problems of connecting a second monitor, convenience for housewives and "how do we equip Linux." This is all interesting and important, of course, but the article was not about that at all.
