How to learn Data Science and Business Intelligence for free? Talk at the Open House Day at Ozon Masters

In September 2019, we launched Ozon Masters , a free educational program for those who want to learn how to work with big data. This Saturday we will talk about the course with its teachers live on the open door day - for now, a little introductory about the program and admission.

About the program

The Ozon Masters training course lasts two years, classes take place - or rather, go through quarantine - in the evenings at the Ozon office in Moscow City, so last year only people from Moscow or Moscow Region could come to us, but this year we opened distance learning .

There are 7 courses in each semester, classes for each of which take place once a week - respectively, in parallel, there are always several optional (and there are also mandatory) subjects, and each student chooses where to go.

The program has two areas: Data Science and Business Intelligence - they differ precisely in the set of required courses. For example, Pasha Klemenkov’s Big Data course is compulsory for DS students, and BI students can attend it if they wish.

Admission

Admission takes place in several stages:

  • registration on the site
  • Online test (until the end of June)
  • Written Exam (June-July)
  • Job interview

For those who successfully passed all the tests and exams, but did not pass the competition, this year the opportunity to study on a fee basis.

Online test

The online test includes 8 random questions: 2 on linear algebra, 2 on matanalysis, 2 on theory and statistics, 1 on differential equations - let the last question be a surprise.

To go to the next stage, you need to correctly answer at least 5.

Exam

To pass the exam, you will need knowledge of mathematical analysis, differential equations, linear algebra and linear geometry, as well as combinatorics, probability theory and algorithms - and, I think, this list is not unfair if you want to seriously engage in data analysis or neural networks) .

A written exam is similar to an exam in higher mathematics (you can find it on the program’s website) - you will have 4 hours and no supporting materials. First you need to solve standard problems in analysis and differential equations, followed by slightly more tricky problems in probability theory, combinatorics and algorithms.

The list of literature useful for preparing here is where you can find examples of entrance exams.

Job interview

The interview consists of two stages. The first part is similar to an oral exam - we will solve problems. The second part is a conversation for life (acquaintance). You will be asked about work / education / motivation, etc. ... We are interested in what you already know how busy (or planning to be loaded) and how great is the desire to get into Ozon Masters.

And how many places on both programs? I'm afraid of a big competition

We plan to recruit from 60 to 80 people. Last year, there were 18 registrations for 1st place.

How difficult is it to combine study with work?

Most likely you will not succeed in combining training at Ozon Masters with full-fledged 5/2 work - there will be almost no free time. But there are still examples of heroes who succeeded.

Is it realistic to combine with Skoltech, NES or another similar training program?

Most likely you will not succeed in combining studies at Ozon Masters and another similar school - it is wiser to choose one of the programs and study diligently on it.

If you still have questions ...

If you are sure that the rest will also really want to know the answer to your question, write in the comments. If you still have a question at the rate, but don’t want to write in the comments, write to ydorn@ozon.ru.

And we’ll be massively telling and answering questions on Saturday, April 25 - at the day of open zooms (or zooms?) :)

In the program:

12:00 - Start; Speech by the organizers;
12:30 - Alexander Dyakonov - About the course "Machine Learning";
13:00 - Dmitry Dagaev - About the course "Game Theory";
13:30 - Alexander Rubtsov - About the course "Algorithms";
14:00 - Ivan Oseledets - About the course “Computational Linear Algebra”;
14:30 - Pavel Klemenkov - About the course "Big Data & Data Engineering";
15:00 - Meeting with students of the program; Answers on questions.
