Russian Railways sends me someone else's tickets

A work colleague today faced an interesting situation around personal data. Tickets bought by other people began to pour into her mail and into the personal account of Russian Railways. Naturally, with all the passenger data and other things. Further - from her words.

This morning, at about 9 am Moscow time, they started to receive other people's tickets (now they don’t already) arrive at the mail address tickets@rzd.ru in the mail and in the personal account of Russian Railways. For everyone, I see an electronic version - it appears in my office as if I bought it myself.

Some of the information is hidden behind the asterisks, but some is available. What information do I see from the electronic ticket:

  • E-ticket number and order number
  • Departure and Arrival Stations
  • Date and time of departure / arrival
  • Train, wagon, place
  • Barcode for terminal
  • Barcode for landing
  • Name of passenger, date of birth, citizenship
  • Document (last digits only)
  • Type of car and class of service
  • Ticket price, insurance, service fee

In the mail there are even receipts from purchases, and all tickets are available for download. Apparently, I can even issue a refund. But of course I didn’t check it, because I don’t want to spoil the trip to anyone.

A little later, random people started calling my personal number, which is indicated in the Russian Railways office and saying that when they enter the login password from their account, they get into mine. That is, in fact they can dispose of all tickets and see my data already. How many more such cases are - one can only guess.

All tickets are available both on the site and in the mobile application. But not in Russian Railways Bonus is a separate thing, tied to the name + document number. Specially checked, there certainly didn’t come.

The letters stopped about the same time when I began to actively call the Russian Railways and wrote a letter to the address they gave. That is, from about 9:00 to 10:30, the majority came to me and one flew over to lunch. Total 44 letters.

And this is only part of the

Russian Railways by feedback numbers that it offers to leave an official appeal, which will be considered up to 30 days or write to the technical support email (you can’t call them).

Official reply in the mail:

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Total Neither by phone nor by mail could not help a colleague. It remains only to wait 30 days and tell this situation here. Maybe someone has already come across a similar one? I hear about such precedents for the first time.
