Hanwha robots fighting the COVID-19 pandemic

Hanwha HCR collaborative robots help fight the spread of coronavirus.

Testing

PSI Technologies has developed an automated system for mass processing of coronavirus assays using the Hanwha HCR-5 collaborative robot. The system works without human intervention and the risk of personnel infection.

Air disinfection

Gyeonggi-do South Korea's Infectious Disease Control Agency is introducing Hanwha HCR robotic air and surface disinfection systems. The robot manipulator operates with an ultraviolet lamp mounted on it, which sequentially and continuously processes the entire room, leaving no infection a chance to survive on surfaces and in the air.

Shopping Cart Disinfection

The Dutch company Olmia Robotics is developing scenarios for the use of robots and their implementation in various fields. In this example: the Hanwha HCR collaborative robot sterilizes the handle of a freight cart by carefully spraying a disinfectant spray over its entire area and making it safe for customers.

A bit of history

The company, as a developer of robotics, began its existence in 1977, and then the organization was one of the divisions of Samsung and was called Samsung Techwin.

Only in 2015, the Korean giant agreed to sell the division to Hanwha. In many countries, Hanwha still sells its robots under the Samsung brand name.

Hanwha is currently one of the strong leaders in the robotics market. The number of employees reaches 2000, Hanwha products are actively used throughout Asia, in the USA and Europe. The company has 20 official representatives in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Hanwha is represented in Russia by Top 3D Group, an integrator of robotics .

What is a cobot

Collaborative robot (= cobot) - a robotic device for collaboration with humans, usually implemented in the robot arm form factor and always equipped with all the sensors necessary for operator safety and force limiting and self-locking systems.

A distinctive feature of such equipment is the flexibility and speed of reconfiguration, as well as wide possibilities of use where a conventional industrial robot either does not fit and cannot work, or will pose a danger to others. Currently, collaborative robots are capturing more and more industries, due to their versatility and undemanding qualifications of personnel working with them.

Hanwha produced the first cobot only in 2017. However, this model, which was called HCR-5, immediately made a splash in the robotics industry, they began to buy it even in Europe. After some time, the lineup was replenished with robots HCR-3 and HCR-12.

The lineup

Injection molding

The robot will be an excellent assistant for the maintenance of injection molding machines, quality control and material change. Thus, the cobot saves time and increases the total number of products for the same period.

Pick-and-Place

The most powerful Hanwha robot (model HCR-12) can lift loads weighing up to 12 kg and place it in boxes, boxes, on pallets, other types of transport packaging. The robot can be used in adverse conditions for workers and works the whole shift, and if necessary, around the clock with the same performance, throughout the entire life cycle. Other models of the line are perfect for working with a conveyor and a set of products in packaging.

Quality control

Quality control is required on large-scale production lines. The cobots installed on them have a full range of functional operations, are capable of providing multi-point control (thanks to a machine vision system), recording results in digital form and independently processing errors.

Maintenance of CNC machines

Cobots are able to closely interact with CNC machines, which allows the latter to perform cyclic operations as accurately as possible. Collaborative devices themselves take care of changing the workpiece, tool, post-processing processes, and also perform other operations.

Painting

It is very important that the paint is applied evenly over the entire surface of the part. Cobots, fulfilling this requirement, are also able to save paint. At the same time, different types of coloring are supported - powder (if there is no explosion protection requirement), airbrushing, spraying, etc. The result in all cases will be equally excellent, and the staff will not need to work in a harmful environment.

Robotic assembly

Assembly requires a high concentration of attention, which leads to rapid fatigue. As a result, when using manual labor, a drop in productivity and an increasing likelihood of marriage are possible. The cobots in the assembly provide the required accuracy thanks to dynamometric sensors, automation of twisting efforts, automatic replacement of screwdrivers of arbitrary types and configurations.

Machine Service

The advantage of using the Hanwha cobot in such operations is that one operator can serve a group of automated systems without loss of productivity. Plus, cobots, including including, this is a quick changeover of the robot to new parts and the ability to quickly move the robot to a new cell.

Welding operations

Cobots can perform spot, arc and other types of welding, up to cutting metal with a laser. An indisputable plus of using cobots in such operations is the guaranteed repeatability of the result, excellent quality and, as a result, increased welding efficiency. And the employees of the enterprise get rid of the need to work in a harmful environment.

Polishing

In polishing operations, cobots are good in that they can automatically control the force applied to the part and the position of the tool. All parts of the surface of complex shape are obtained equally polished with high quality.

Programming Hanwha Cobots

In just a few hours, a cobot can be taught a number of useful and accurate operations. You can pass a course on programming kobotov Hanwha HCR series. The video is in English, you can connect subtitles in the YouTube settings .

The recording function of the trajectory of movement is very convenient - when the operator takes the manipulator’s brush in his hand and, directing it, indicates the working route, which can then be adjusted programmatically. This function can be extremely useful when there are serious restrictions on the working area of the robot and the inability to use standard axial movements.

Hanwha proprietary software contains many scenarios for performing a number of operations (installation, packaging, loading, etc.). At the same time, the software supports the Rodi software standard.

Comparison of Hanwha HCR and Universal Robots cobots

Table of main parameters

Explanations for the table

1. Hanwha collaborative robots are cheaper than similar solutions from Universal Robots. On average, you can buy one UR robot without tools, or a Hanwha robot with a gripper, for about the same money, which will give a ready-made complex for solving basic tasks. At the same time, the technical capabilities of Hanwha cobots are the same as those of similar Universal Robots models, for example, Hanwha HCR-3 is similar to UR 3.

2. Hanwha robots have safety certificates GOST ISO 13849-1-2014: Class 3 PLd, confirming the high degree of robot safety .

3. The robot is equipped with a friendly and intuitive user interface, which allows to reduce operator training time.

4. If you need to expand the programming functionality, a control mode based on Javascript is available, which allows you to connect non-standard devices with Com-usb, Ethernet, EtherCat connection interfaces to the robot.

5. HCR-5 and HCR-12 each have 4 + 4 digital inputs and outputs of the instrument and two analog inputs (not counting the inputs / outputs on the controller, this is another 16 + 16, + two analog inputs), which makes it possible to install complex vacuum gripping systems. Universal Robots cobots have only 2 + 2 digital inputs and outputs, and 2 analog inputs.

6. HCR-5 and HCR-12 have an Ethercat bus output, which allows you to connect additional devices and cameras without using long cables.

7. The basic functionality of the Hanwha cobot interface includes predefined tools for integration with vision systems.

8. The robot programming interface has the function of recording the trajectory of movement, which greatly simplifies its “training”.

Conclusion

In addition to the general advantages inherent in cobots, such as safety and convenience, Hanwha collaborative robots have their own advantages:

  • own ecosystem and peripherals; Easy Plug and Play solutions for cobots;
  • quick setup, training - less than one working day is required;
