Boston Dynamics: From US Army Orders to Spot Commercial Robot

For the past ten years, Boston Dynamics has been surprising us with a video of its robots. The company began with the creepy BigDog commissioned by the US Army, and ended with a bright yellow and friendly SpotMini for the industry. Their cars can scan rooms, carry loads, and also - balance on ice, dance and perform parkour - even more abruptly than people. It seems that you need to wait a little longer, and the robots will begin to walk freely through the streets. Now, when half the world sits home, it would look especially comical. The history of Boston Dynamics began almost 30 years ago, and maybe all 40 - when the founder of the company came up with a one-legged jumping robot.

Mark Rybert created Boston Dynamics based on a group of engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - then Raybert still worked in the LegLab laboratory. The company completely separated from the institute three years later - in 1995.

Mark has been developing robotic limbs since the 80s. In 1986, he designed a robot that, jumping on one leg, could keep balance. Subsequently, the ideas of Reibert, embodied in the products of Boston Dynamics.
