How to enable Google docs offline in the new Microsoft Edge

Microsoft’s new Edge browser on the Chrome engine recently replenished the Chromium-based browser zoo. But it compares favorably with the rest that it comes bundled with Windows. And this means that all tests of laptops on battery power will be carried out with him, and Microsoft will have to carefully monitor this. From a complete transition to Edge I was stopped by the idle "offline" mode in Google office: documents, tables and presentations. An irreplaceable thing in flights and trains. But now that you can install extensions for Chrome in Edge, a few simple manipulations let you fool Google services and make offline work!

1. Install the hidden extension "Google docs offline"

Searching the extension store will not show it, so you need to use the direct link .

Installing only this extension will not turn on offline mode: Google web services check that requests come from the Google Chrome browser. Which is generally reasonable: the functionality is still experimental, requires expansion, and rolling it out to all possible browsers can cause many unexpected breakdowns. But if we know what we are doing and are ready for reasonable risk, then we proceed to the next step.

2. Install the “User-Agent Switcher and Manager” extension

Available both in search store extensions , and by direct link .

3. Pretend to be Google Chrome

This can be done only for the right sites or globally. For illustrative purposes, the screenshot shows how to introduce Google Chrome on any sites: click on the icon of the extension installed in the previous step in the upper right corner, select the browser and operating system:

4. Turn on offline mode in Google office suite
