S7 Group opens a department “Information Technologies in Aviation” at MIPT

The master's program at the PhysTech School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics will train data management and implementation of highly efficient products.

The S7 Group and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology are opening a set of students for the basic department of Information Technologies in Aviation, which is focused on training specialists in the creation and implementation of data-driven IT systems. Education under the new master's program will begin on September 1, 2020.

The training program is designed for four semesters and includes several key areas: research on the business context, creating data-based products, information technology. The course is based on real tasks and case studies from S7 Group practice: part of the training will take place during the work on research tasks in the field of machine learning within the company.

“We understand and feel the example of the S7 Group that today the most popular are people who have strong competencies in their chosen specialty supported by a broad outlook and the ability to navigate in a rapidly changing world, to find new opportunities. At our department, we focus on the development of a set of competencies: knowledge of information technology, ability to solve business problems and create products based on data. In fact, it is a combination of four different specialties: business analyst, developer, data analyst and product owner. I’m sure that professionals of this level will be welcomed in the largest rapidly growing companies, primarily in the S7 Group , ”says Pavel Voronin, First Deputy General Director for Information Technologies of S7 Group, Head of the Department of Information Technologies in Aviation.

As part of the courses and practical work, students within the framework of the urgent tasks of the S7 Group will learn how to decompose business goals, form product ideas, build prototype systems and effectively manage product development. The tasks will be related to the optimization of the airline's route network, maintenance and operation of aircraft, marketing, pricing, and many others. Specialists of the S7 Group holding will be part of the faculty.

“The physics and technology school of applied mathematics and computer science (FPMI) is developing extremely dynamically. Now it is a leading world center of science and education in the field of mathematics and computer science. FPMI implements a strategy of combining the competencies of academic and industrial partners at one educational site. Last year alone, this allowed us to open five new laboratories and one department. In total, we already have 27 departments and 21 laboratories from key academic research institutes and key representatives of the IT industry. The opening of the department of the S7 group of companies is a very important event for us. A new area of research is emerging, new opportunities are emerging for students, scientists and teachers of the school , ”notes Andrey Raigorodsky, Director of the PhysTech School of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Head of the Laboratory for Advanced Combinatorics and Network Applications, Head of the Department of Discrete Mathematics.

In order to enter the Department of Information Technologies in Aviation, in addition to the standard entrance examinations of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, candidates will need to pass an interview with representatives of the S7 Group. The new course is aimed at undergraduate graduates with strong mathematical skills, basic knowledge of machine learning and programming. An additional advantage will be leadership and communication skills.

The presentation of the new basic department will be held March 16 at 18:30 at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (Dolgoprudny, 4 Scientific Lane, Stream audience of the Physics and Technology Department of the Arctic). You can register for the event here .
