In principle, it is true that in almost all companies it is enough just to be able to weave intrigues and offer quick solutions from the bulldozer without going deep into the problem. Even Boeing recently showed that both planes and missiles can be done carelessly, but in fact there are places where this does not roll from the word at all.

I “managed” to get to know very closely the methods of work of intensive care staff, where my son and I spent almost a year around the clock, sometimes, for a good reason, moving to a general ward.

The task of the people of this department is to keep children at the border of life and death for months, deciding that it is necessary to continue giving medications, causing half the organs in the body to fail, to a person who is already in a coma. And doctors and nurses there are constantly making mistakes, and these children are constantly dying there.

The work of doctors reminded me very much of the work of programmers - they even have stand-ups. They just debate people, not a code. I participated in a bunch of rallies of various kinds and discussions of solutions to completely incomprehensible and very urgent problems and noticed some interesting principles of the people’s work there.

Naturally, they had no time to run after the boss secretary or post on stackoverflow the question of how to treat sepsis.

  • When working on a problem, they never estimate the time to solve it from above. Only from below. They never say, "your child will recover in a maximum of a week." They always say only how long a minimum will take.
