Intel Xeon Scalable Gen2: Big Sale of Cores

The second generation of Intel Xeon Scalable processor family is replenished: to the 60 models released last year, 19 new ones were added . Most of the new products belong to the "middle class" Gold, there is a bit of Silver and Bronze, but Platinum is not a single one. The point here is, I think, in the trends and nuances of the situation, at least one pattern is clearly visible: the 2020 models have moved up in terms of characteristics at a constant price. Whether this will happen with the top models, as you can see, will be decided separately.

So, when updating the line, the standard status quo was observed for Intel: heirs have the same cost as their predecessors. However, this time it is rather a formality: we see that the characteristics (frequency and number of cores) are significantly improved within one generation. Consider an example.

As we see, the new Xeon Gold 6238R, on the one hand, is significantly more powerful than the previous Xeon Gold 6238, on the other hand, it is almost identical in characteristics to the much more top-end Xeon Platinum 8276 with a corresponding price difference. The only “but”: 6238R can only be used in dual-socket configurations - this is indicated by the R index (similarly, the T index means “processor for a single-socket server”). For some, this may be crucial.
