Is the world ready for a pandemic?

The question of whether or not a pandemic of a viral disease will occur does not arise. This will happen. The only question is: when? And if current events really became the beginning of a pandemic, the world is not ready for this. Instead of “brainstorming” to counter the pandemic, the Munich Security Conference continues to “rattle with arms” ...

We cannot create vaccines in advance. Their development and clinical studies will require at least a year, which may turn out to be excessively long in comparison with the speed of the pandemic. How to reduce the spread of viral infection? Public awareness is important. Is something real being done in this area? The materials published on Habré show that "no". If it were otherwise, publications like the “review of medical masks” would not have appeared (naturally, Habr is not alone, the same is in all other media).

Ask: What do I want? - The answer is simple: in many areas, so-called checklists have long existed, allowing even non-professionals and people in stressful situations to act correctly, performing everything that is important in a particular case. This, in particular, is accepted in foreign medical (surgical) practice, among pilots of military and civil aviation, etc. True, this is only just beginning to appear in our healthcare ... Somehow, all hands do not reach ...

And it is also accepted in Russia that the salvation of a drowning man is the work of the drowning man himself. In this regard, it may be useful to someone (drawn up “offhand”) the minimum list of issues that you need to think about:

  • If a coronovirus infection (hereinafter referred to as CVI), spreading in the form of an aerosol in air and by contact, can persist on (any) surfaces for several days, then the objects that carry CVI are, including money, bank cards, wallets, telephones, clothes, shoes, school bags and school supplies ... Does this mean that you should clearly define at least two zones in your house: “dirty” and “clean” and learn how to clearly distribute your things between them?
  • Everyone had to notice a lot of dust particles in a bright sunbeam with the simplest manipulations with clothes or bedding. Does this mean that when you come home, you should not rush to remove the respirator and isolate (separate) from other things outer (and maybe office) clothes?
  • What “clean” or “dirty” hands should a respirator and clothes be removed?
