Why eSIM is needed. How it works and why they talk so much about it

We are, as usual, on the verge of another technological revolution (I’ve already confused what number it is ...). IoT or the Internet of things will bring new business models, new usage scenarios and will lead to another redistribution of the entire telecom market.

As in any business, there are a lot of areas, competing solutions, technologies - in short, the porridge is still that. And what comes out of it is hard to say with complete certainty.

There are several systematic areas of development, as it were, a kind of needs matrix where solutions are ranked by data transfer speed and data transfer distance. There are NFC and BLE for payments. There are LoRa and ZigBee for sensors, and there are solutions based on 4G & 5G cellular communications, for example LTE-M and NB-IoT.

In my opinion (since I work with cellular communications), the simplest and most ready-to-deploy IoT segment is the Internet of Things based on a cellular network using eSIM. That's what I’ll tell you from the point of view of hardware and software, but at the level of "interesting to know."
